space. Whether you love traditional styles or hip metropolitan looks, this decorative aspect provides fill lighting for the room.
CHANDELIERS:
Chandeliers have a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and styles, and can range from simple to ornate. The wispy arms of a simple country style can tie a farm kitchen together, while a series of mini crystal chandeliers over an island can add the right accent to a more formal kitchen.
PENDANTS:
The use of pendants started in the kitchen, and the flair they offer a room has them being used in other parts of the home. Think of pendants as the sophisticated earrings that complement a gown. These lights are the focal point in most kitchens and vary in shape, size, and color to fit your personal taste.
UNDER-CABINET:
Under-cabinet lighting is as important as a good knife in a kitchen. Including under-cabinet lighting ensures that you have a completely lit work surface. As an added benefit, when you light the backsplash it adds to the appearance of the room. Include a dimming feature and you now have a great night- light. When adding under-cabinet lighting, the goal is to have bright and uniform illumination on the counter top. The preferred way to light this space
is with either linear fixtures sized for under the cabinet or LED tape.
Feiss
1. Consider the finish of the counter surface below the light. A glossy finish will reflect the light source above. The way the light is positioned can make a visual difference here.
2. When using pendants over the island, incorporate a couple of recessed lights in between them to add specific dedicated task lighting to this area.
3. A beautiful feature piece should not be used as your primary source of light.
